Weird Tasks ...

Since WheelDoggy.com is set up to post tasks, even unusual (but legal) task, we are always on the look for "weird task".  Here is one from China ...

BEIJING (AFP) – Chinese motorists stuck in traffic can now hire someone to sit in jams for them, with entrepreneurs finding a business opportunity in the growing gridlock across the car-crazy country.

As wider car ownership leaves roads more congested in the country of 1.3 billion, motorists can now escape by calling a substitute driver to take their cars to their destinations, China Daily reported Saturday.

As drivers are whisked away on the back of motorcycles, a car service employee sits in traffic for them, the state-run newspaper said.

The service is for "those with urgent dates or business meetings to go to, and those who have flights to catch and can't afford to wait in a traffic jam for too long," Huang Xizhong, whose company offers the service in the central city of Wuhan, was quoted as saying.
Huang said he began offering the service last year after receiving a number of calls from desperate motorists, the report said.

The service is also available in the eastern city of Jinan, where drivers can pay more than 400 yuan ($60) to escape a traffic jam, the report said.

It is great to see that entrepreneurship is alive and well in China !

Are you looking for someone to GIVE you a job?

I found this excerpt from an old John Wayne movie to contain an interesting concept... being "given a job" versus "earning a wage".  If you are looking for someone to "give you a job", the wait will be long.  If you are willing to work hard and earn every penny that you are paid, then you will never have a shortage of opportunities.

That is what WheelDoggy is about... opportunities, not guarantees.

Charity Tasks on MLK day?

If you have not heard... WheelDoggy.com is starting out in the Greater Danbury (CT) area but no matter where you are, you can sign up as either a Helper (to do tasks) or a Customer (to post tasks).

Charity Tasks...
What do you think about the idea of "Charity tasks" where a charity would post a task, Helpers would bid to do it and a customer would offer to pay for it (as a donation to the charity)?

The MLK day / Day of Service got me thinking along these lines and while it would take some additional programming (and investment of money) on the WheelDoggy.com website, I think it could have a very positive impact on the community !

Let start with... Why is it called "WheelDoggy"?

Well, we were looking for a neat name that was not too boring / descriptive (we started with "GoFindDeliver.com (tm)" for a period when we were building the prototype website), but also not too obscure or weird that people would not be able to remember it easily and, more importantly, tell their friends.

We kicked around a ton of ideas and one day ... it just appeared ! Dave (d.Mark "Dave" Wheeler, founder of WheelDoggy) remembered a character in an old movie from the 1960's called "MoonDoggy".

It seemed like a fun, easy to remember name ... it just needed a twist... or more accurately, "a wheel". So that's it... WheelDoggy is insprired by a 1960's movie character, MoonDoggy !

Did you know? (according to wikipedia) ...

A moon dog or moondog (scientific name paraselene,, i.e. "beside the moon") is a relatively rare bright circular spot on a lunar halo caused by the refraction of moonlight by hexagonal-plate-shaped ice crystals in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds.  Moondogs appear to the left and right of the moon 22° or more distant. They are exactly analogous to sun dogs, but are rarer because to be produced the moon must be bright and therefore full or nearly full. Moondogs show little color to the unaided eye because their light is not bright enough to activate the cone cells of humans' eyes.
